About
Southbourne Surf Life Saving Club was founded in 1986 and in the early years was commonly referred to as Southbourne Surf. Our initially small membership has grown steadily over the years and can now boast more than 130 members from age 7 to 65+. Our new club house was opened in 2016 and is located at the bottom of St Catherine’s path on the promenade near to Sobo Beach.
We work closely with RNLI Lifeguards and the Coastguard (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) to keep our community safe by providing coastal surveillance and using our Inshore Rescue Boat, rescue boards, and surf skis. We have supported a number of local events over the years by providing safety cover, in and out of the sea, including the Brownsea Island swim, the Seahorse Swim, seafront marathons and triathlons, the Bournemouth Air Festival and the Macmillan Caring Locally annual Christmas Dip.
In recognition of their work and dedication over a great many years and their continuing commitment to the club and its members, we have awarded Gwyn Scott, Lindsey Scott, and Philip (Sponge) Younger life membership. Without them and the late Bill Ezekiel MBE there would be no Southbourne Surf Life Saving Club.
